Not necessarily. If you can find a well paying job, then a degree in History is fine. It also depends on the university that you go to. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (i.e. Minister of Finance) has a degree in Modern History. He did go to the University of Oxford though.

The vast majority of people doing history degrees at the vast majority of universities are probably wasting their time though.
It's a generalisation, but one that holds pretty damn true for 95% of the people doing that degree

I studied history. It's a long story as to why. Huge waste of time. Long before I found trp I have given this advice to everyone I know, DO NOT FUCKING STUDY THE LIBERAL ARTS. All the shit they will ever teach you you can pick up by being well read. Again STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE LIBERAL ARTS.

STEM is the only way to make money these days (that and maybe some business degrees - but if you have the accumen you dont really need a degree in business)

The Red Pill is founded on anecdotes. STEM is a better choice if your university isn't ranked highly in a particular subject/degree choice. However, if it is an elite university, then the prestige factor and the potential for making social connections far outweighs the degree choice.

Going to an elite university is very different as getting in the door is already evidence that you are among the top 1%. But for everybody else, the degree matters because the school's prestige isn't good enough to get you the job like an Oxford or a Harvard would.
Also, this are very different in the recent 10-15 years. 30 years ago, very few people went to college, so many positions have to be occupied by people who don't have the right degrees or people who don't come from the most prestigious schools. Today, everybody can go to college so employers are a lot more selective. Also, due to a hyper-vigilant legal system, hiring people with the right degree minimizes legal liability. You can be a History major that is good at finance, but it is hard to explain why you are hired over a black person or a woman with a finance degree who is qualified to do the job too. You may be able to find some old people who went to some random community college and got a degree unrelated to his field, but that was back when very few people went to college so that college degree actually differentiated him (put him in the top 1/3 or 1/4 of the population). You won't find many examples of that today as everybody can go to college. You need to either go to one of the elite universities where your admittance alone proves you are on the top few percent of the population, or you need the degree that matches your profession.
I fully agree. I just don't believe the statement that STEM degrees are somehow the best, which is what the original poster implied. Only a select few universities are universally appealing to employers (Ivy League and Red brick institutions in the UK). Even if you gain a degree in sociology, it is likely to be valuable.
If your university is not prestigious, then a STEM degree is the safest choice.

If you are not at a very reputable University, you have to go STEM. Any elite level writers, historians, lawyers, etc that majored in a liberal art went to a strong university for undergrad or postgrad, i guarantee it.

College is definitely worth it - But I am a mechanical engineer so my quality of life and current wages far outweigh the four wasted years and debt I accrued.
However, if you think you are going to be a psychologist or social worker or something like that then no, no it is not worth it at all

Depending on what you're studying, the knowledge can take you a long way. The HTML classes I took my first year ended up landing me my first job(s) in the web/tech space.

College is worth it if you get what you want out of it. If you are just going because you "have to" or mommy and daddy made you, then you're gonna have a bad time. If you are passionate about a goal in life and it will help you reach that goal then consider the cost and pay what you can to get what you need to reach your goal. College is only a tool to help you get what you want.

College in AMERICA is not worth it. Europe, seriously people. The world is bigger than the USA. The tuitions are so much lower and the cost of living is cheaper too, not to mention the experience itself is more enriching and enables travel. The cost difference is also simply enormous compared to the overpriced schools in the US.
Regarding the degree, many schools are every bit as good as what you'll get in an American college. And no, employers (minus certain professions like law/medical) could give not give 2 fucks about what accreditation program your degree was from.

College worth it? It depends.
First, if you want to get a degree. Consider going overseas. College outside America is far cheaper.
Second. if you are a minority or a woman, stick to STEM majors. A Black or Hispanic that tries to compete in the business world with Whites will be at a great disadvantage. It's not impossible, but the cards are stacked against you. In STEM careers you either know, or you don't know. There is no in between.
My story. I am Hispanic, I tried to break into the business world. I could not get anywhere. As a test, I plagiarized some successful guy's resume as my own. Long story short, it never got pasted the phone interview. Then I studies computers. It was the 90's and the doors opened up for me. I had jobs offers galore. Being White will not help you write code. BTW, my friend is White. He did not have a Business major. 2 weeks after he graduated he got a job at a bank. It took me 1 year after graduating to get a job.
So is college worth it? It depends on your major and ethnic background. If you are a White guy you can major in anything. You will probably get a job anywhere. If you are a minority, stick to majors that are skilled based. Where it is what you know that counts.

I saw that a degree in Business Administration was a dead end. So I studied computers. Now I am a success. White guys can't afford to discriminate in the computer field because not many White people study computers so they had to hire me.
I once walked into a store with a suit and tie and the person working the counter heard my Hispanic accent and called the cops. She told the cops that I was there to rob the store. After talking with the cops they let me go. The only reason this happened is because I was in a White neighborhood.
If you think that there is no racism in the US then you live in fantasy land.
