Having recently moved to a European city to teach English where very few people already speak it I have found myself in the interesting position of having to try and pick-up girls that don't know what the fuck I'm saying most of the time.

This can lead to funny interactions however and you also have the added SMV of being more exotic than the locals to the girls (I never thought being from the South West of England would be considered exotic but it seems that way) the main aspect in your favour, though, is the fact that as verbal communication is limited you are forced to rely on and pay more attention to the sub-communications in order to elicit attraction.

A few days ago I was wondering around a cramped but large homeware store that seemed to literally sell everything one could ever possibly need for a house. This lead to me having to ask where the towel racks were, with google translate. The man behind the till passed me over to a cute lil Italian girl and we were on our way to the far corner of the store. Needless to say slightly awkward - lost in translation - style hilarity ensued whilst we were communicating through Google but the mere fact that I was calm, composed, looking deep into her eyes and making her laugh was clearly getting her pretty wet.

So after we've decided on the appropriate towel rack for me I get the keypad up on my phone and give it to her gesturing for her to put her number in, she shakes her head with a smile (turns out she has a boyfriend) I shrug my shoulders and say oh well and we start making our way back to the till, I'm still making her laugh and offering her pretzels as if nothing had happened, we get halfway back to the front of the store and she stops and opens her Facebook and passes me her phone. Little more non-verbal banter and I'm away off out the door.

She's taking me for a tour around the city today.

Moral of the story is if you can Sub-Communicate clearly that you're a fun guy who is not going to get weird if she rejects you and can even carry on as if nothing happened then she will feel much more inclined to let you take it a step further.
