Here's a good example of what we're looking for:

Try Vipassana. You learn to meditate while getting free room and board. You can also stay on longer if you want a type of monastic experience.

"I want to be a good person, if not for the reward that God will give me, than for it's own sake. I think that this is too difficult to accomplished while slavishly serving my own petty self interests"

Caution

One of the most troubling aspects of those of European ancestry is what has been called pathological altruism. Despite some thinking that selflessness is a good thing it can actually lead people to things like allowing foreign peoples to take over areas and practice terrorism. (think Sweden)

So here's an alternative view...

Seek the Truth no matter where that leads you. Rather than being essentially a blind bleading heart you become wise as the serpent.

In these days of extreme degeneracy it's sometimes necessary to speak the Truth even when it's painful for those to hear.

The higher calling is Truth over selflessness and "goodness".

If you want to, go to Sri Lanka and become a monk. I, as many children have done time as a monk and it was a lovely experience.

But I knew it wasn't for me, and that is the real point of it, monasteries allow you to take a trial membership of sorts.

But if you're gonna do it, go big, go Sri Lanka or Thailand.

In our culture it's more or less expected that everyone spends some time as a monk, every man at least, because it is character building, and it's all for your spiritual health.

Can you fill me in on what your experiences were when you tried living as a monk? I've never done this before. I would like to know what you've done and how you've experienced it.

Lots of monks try to break the cycle that is that you strive for something then only become indifferent to it once you got it.

Which is why people need to achieve more and more, take more drugs, get a hotter girl. I think monks try to live in a totally different state that is not defined by this treadmill of achievement.
