Intro This is in addition to the first part of my post on Knowing Yourself. In the first I have talked about how important it is to get to know yourself better, find faults within yourself and finding the problems that YOU are causing. In this part I would like to suggest some ways to actually learn about yourself more in many other ways.

Tone of Voice What you are hearing, is just the voice that is inside your head. You are not hearing what the other person is hearing. Don't believe me? Record yourself, and listen to it the next day. Just talk to yourself about something random. Not only does your own skull and the source of the voice from deep within your throat deform the sound of your own voice, but your own mind is tricking you aswell by how you speak it out. You might think you sound very enthousiastic about the topic you are discussing, but you could be even more monotone than a robot.

Facial expressions As far as facial expression go, you can only FEEL your face. Many have the luck that when they feel they are laughing, they actually genuinely are and people like them for that. Some of us have the bad luck of a bad feel of our own face, which results in a dead face that has no expressions. In combination with a monotone voice and expressionless face, no matter what you talk about, you will be the most boring person in a radius of a thousand miles. To learn about yourself how your facial expressions look like when you talk, just talk in the mirror. It's the reason why presenters practice in front of the mirror. It shows them their body language, their face, their lips. Some even record themselves to actually hear how they sound.

Study yourself, learn how you actually sound and look like to other people when you are talking. Observe other people, compare yourself. Stay true to yourself, but observe... You will eventually see that what you are seeing in the mirror or hearing from the audio file, isn't you, but seems to be someone else.

Interaction with people (things you say) The things you say to people, the things you talk about, how you talk about them, the effort you make to be interested in the other and vice versa. In long lasting relationships, it is essential that both parties make an effort and both get more in return than the effort they put in. Doesn't work in mathematics and physics, but it works with social and emotional science because that's the thing that is truly irrational. Listen to what you say, remember what you say. Observe your conversation as the third person and realize how much effort you actually make to be interested in the person you are talking to. I am not saying that you should force yourself to be interested in the other person, but to realize whether you actually show as much interest as you think you do or atleast want to. This includes facial expression, tone of voice and such. Noone wants to talk to a deadface who is emotionless, but a passionate person who is interested in you, and will show interest back because they want to get to know the person that they admire for who they are.

Look at yourself in the mirror Get naked, get dressed, play with your hairstyle. Look at your skin, your muscles, your fat, your hair. Do you really want that hairstyle? Don't you think you should lose some fat and build some muscle? Or just try a different wardrobe so you don't look like the modern hobbit? As far as your wardrobe goes, go to the local clothing store and just try on some random stuff. Look around on the internet what people are wearing, look up people who have your facial structure, hairline and skull form, and consider the alternative hairstyles. Atleast make your hair look healthy, not all beaten up and crooky. As for your body, hit the fucking gym and stop eating garbage.

Self-discipline Do you take care of yourself? Do you wash your clothes, clean up your room, keep your things organized, eat healthy? Have you considered how your day looks like to other people? With other people I mean rather, how do you look to you? Would you admire yourself for doing what you do, or be disgusted at the guy who gets home, strips, cooks some eggs in his boxers, watches netflix all day and calls it a day, 6 out of 7 days of the week? Don't you have something interesting to do? Something productive? Would this be the person that you would make your own best friend? Not really. Do you procrastinate, cause drama over stuff you could have done a long time ago with the same effort and saving yourself from all of it? I know people who don't cook for a straight week and just eat garbage, and then they are so sensitive about their weight (which includes doing nothing). Recognize when you are not doing something essential to your life just because you are too lazy or don't respect your own mental or physical state.

Self criticism And this all comes down to self-criticism. Not the "I suck in all ways" kind, but the kind that actually thinks of what you are good at and value yourself. It is important to make a (mental) list of things that you like about yourself. You may be really good and having alot of fun with doing A, B and C, people may be coming for you for advice on topic D and E because you know so much about it. The things you like about yourself and the realization what you are good at help to build a strong ego which doesn't come off as arrogant, but rather someone who is happy in life and enriches those around him. As for the bad things, they should not be taken with a grain of salt, but with a decent amount of acceptance. An easy one is to just stand in the mirror and say "Well, I am too fat, I would look much better and the quality of live would improve if I would lose weight. It's maybe my fault for eating junk and not doing any physical workouts". When it comes to discipline, it is easy to neglect that workout in the second week because you don't see results, but that's how valuable that investment is. People misjudge the worth of things, take things for granted because some people don't seem to have to put so much effort in it. They don't, becaues they have done this for years and you have to catch up by doing the same effort in just a matter of months or even just weeks.

A strong man has a strong mind, one that truthfully can evaluate himself and build a healthy ego from all the things he is good at or with, and work on his bad sides and weaknesses to become a better self that he will love more strongly than he did before.
