Person A is walking to work one morning on a city sidewalk. Person B is doing the same. The sidewalk is narrow, and the two are walking in opposite directions towards each other. The two are equal in height, weight, and appearance. When they finally walk by, they are on the verge of bumping into each other. The onlookers see the awkward encounter and conclude that the situation is awkward due to Person B.
Why not Person A?
Person A had a different mindset than Person B.
-Person A considers themselves a winner.
-Person A stands by their decisions.
-Person A owns what the fuck they are doing.
Although Person A and Person B are arguably doing the exact same thing and look to be of the same status, Person B is deemed the weird one.
Your inner mindset subtly comes out to the surface and impacts how others perceive, assess, and interact with you. Our body’s subconsciously process information about other people and the conscious mind is usually not even aware.
The inner thoughts and opinions of yourself are picked up by other people through a nonverbal exchange of messages. In fact, two human bodies standing next to each other exchange up to 10,000 units of information (citing: How To Talk To Anyone).
Pause for a second think about a dog that that becomes scared. The hair on the dog’s back raises. The dog doesn’t even know that the hair on its back is raised. But you can physically see it and consciously assess that the dog is frightened.
Although the hair raised on a dog’s back is something that is very noticeable to the conscious part of you, take that and imagine the number of things that your body picks up from others, even if you and the other person are both consciously not aware what information is being broadcasted and received. Your mindset and opinion of yourself directly influences this exchange.
Think this is all bullshit? Tomorrow walk around in public with the mindset “I am somebody that people look at a lot”. Low and behold, you’ll catch that more people are looking your way. Then walk around with the mindset “I am a nobody that nobody cares to even look at”. People will not give a fuck about you.
Not only is this going to impact the signals that you are giving off, but it will also likely impact the way you carry yourself, thus sending even more (and perhaps clearer) signals to others.
If you walk around viewing yourself as a winner, the exchange of messages is far different than if you walk around viewing yourself as a loser. If you think you are a loser, people’s bodies will pickup more that you are a loser, and thus they will likely treat you more like a loser. If you think you are somebody that wins at life, people will tend to treat you more so like a winner. You will actually become more successful at winning due to the fact that people will treat you differently, and additionally they will unconsciously make the path to winning easier for you and more expected. The mindset is ridiculously impactful, and I suggest you use that to your advantage.
You are a winner. You are somebody that gets attention from women. You are somebody that is important. You are somebody whose words carry weight. You are somebody that stands your ground in a confrontation. You are somebody the world gives a fuck about.
Don’t be Person B. Person B is awkward. Person B broadcasts to the world that they are at fault if they bump into somebody. Person A broadcasts to the world that they are not the weird one if somebody bumps into them.
*Side note: The sidewalk scenario is just an example. Don’t take this the wrong way by being a complete asshole and pseudo-alpha while walking. You should realistically strive to avoid the situation before it becomes a possibility, and you should make room particularly for the handicap.
View yourself as who you want to be and how you want to be perceived as others, and others will begin to perceive you as such
