It doesn't really make sense. You don't need a lot of money to get married.

You need a lot of money for the ceremony. The only men hurt by that is a blue pill beta who overspends to make some bitch happy.

How does it not make any sense? They increase their standard of living by marrying for money. Then they can maintain that standard of living by remaining in the relationship or divorcing, and still keeping a nice chunk of change, that may even be continual.

It makes plenty of sense to get married as a woman, and no sense as a man.

If you read the article you could infer that it goes both ways. Men are also only marrying women of the same income / education value.

[–]TRP VanguardVZPurp-2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Her research has shown that higher levels of education, and thus income potential, also greatly reduce the likelihood of divorce – although that effect is stronger for white women than for African-American women.

Or security.

Some experts argue that marriage itself is contributing to rising inequality, because people who are highly educated – and therefore have higher income potential – are more likely to choose each other as spouses.

That’s making it less likely that marriage itself will move someone up the economic ladder, and increasing the chances that two low- or high-income people will couple up and share their economic struggles, or fortunes.

“The doctor used to marry the nurse. Today, the doctor marries the doctor,”

This isn't about women marrying for money or security. The men are doing the same thing according to this article.

No, I meant the men could be choosing such women because there's less a chance of divorce. Divorce only really hurts men.

[–]kudosxv4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

If a woman earns a higher income then the man will come out better in the end just like the majority of women do. It's our fault as men for downgrading and not upgrading. Women are smart when it comes to this. They know better than to marry someone lower than them (generalizing here). Maybe we should take this idea from them more often?

The law isn't any different based on sex. It's just usually it's the man who is the earner in the household. Best example I can give off the top of my head is Britney Spears and Kevin Federline.

A woman's attractiveness to me is unrelated to her earning capacity.

Also, a woman who earns more than her man is unlikely to remain attracted to him.

[–]kudosxv0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We are in agreement at this point.

[–]rhettdu0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's insecure beta bullshit.

Earning isn't as attractive to me as ambition - maybe that's because I'm a dirt poor future millionaire myself?

A guy who makes less will only drop in attractiveness if he lets himself. If you're your wife's charity case (I call him Oscar after guy I know, but it also works if you imagine he's the little man she can carry around in her handbag) then yes - she'll grow some self esteem and kick your ass to the curb (or at least cheat on you with some real men).

But if you take that leg up in society as an advantage - business connections, raise your "brand" etc. - then you're on to a winner. Because you are a winner.

this "I don't need anyone else's help" mentality is stupid. There are rich and powerful people out there who WANT to help you. All you have to do is fit in and they will come flocking

Bzzzzt. Wrong

http://www.floatingpath.com/2013/05/13/married-couples-still-more-likely-to-divorce-if-the-woman-earns-more/

Women only ever marry UP the ladder, they never marry a man they consider below them.

The law isn't any different based on sex

No, but women get overwhelmingly favored in divorce settlements, even when they earn more.

A woman earning more, means the marriage is also much much more likely to end in divorce.

Women can get married many times, and every time they get divorced they get favored in the settlement.

Best example I can give off the top of my head is Britney Spears and Kevin Federline.

Pfft. He got chump change compared to what she would have got had the roles been reversed.

[–]kudosxv0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Your bzzzt wrong is kind of pointless. It's all assumption and we already fucking agreed upon the fact the majority of women will only marry up never down. Did you not read any of the previous comments?

[–]Clauderoughly[S] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sorry I missed a link when I wrote the "wrong"

[–]kudosxv1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I understand. The disconnect here is that we are in agreement essentially. What I'm saying is that IF (hypothetically) a woman earns more than her husband. Besides, isn't the title of that article already saying she DID marry in the first place? So she DID actually marry "down" in this sense.

[–]JohnPeel4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Just sucks that marriage is still the best way to raise kids.

[–]Clauderoughly[S] 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Used to be.

Even nowdays, the general quality of women is so poor they make awful mothers.

They raise their daughters to be sluts, and raise their sons to be beta pussies.

In an ideal world, you'd have a kid with a surrogate woman, and then pay a professional nanny to raise the kid while you were at work.

You'd never have to worry about the nanny trying to take your kid and half your shit.

You could fire the nanny if she was sub par, and get a better one.

[–]TRP VanguardVZPurp0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The best way to raise kids is a stable family environment.

Extended family -> Nuclear family -> Single mother "family"

Marriage used to be a reasonable way of ensuring stability, but women were given incentive to destroy the family unit.

As someone who's new to this community - is the general consensus that this is a bad thing? Or just reaffirming something that most don't know/want to acknowledge?

[–]Clauderoughly[S] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The community is rather split on the whole concept of marriage.

I am a married RP man, and my wife lurks in the sub.

There are quite a few of us who are ok with marriage under very limited and strict conditions. I got married to a woman is 100% a-ok with being a stay at home wife, and if she does go back to work it will only be a maximum of part time.

The article I posted re-enforces a few RP facts

  1. Most women will only marry a man above their station, due to evolutionary programming

  2. Feminism has massively distorted what women think they "deserve" in a husband. This leads to women squandering their most attractive and fertile years, expecting their ideal man to materialize like magic when they are ready. Garfunkle and Oates do a fantastic song that illustrates this mindset

  3. Men with assets should never get married.

Whether you get married or not is a personal choice, but I swore I would never get married until I met a woman who met some very high and exacting standards.

I was lucky enough to find that woman, most men aren't because of the way society is currently structured.

As happily married as I am, I would advise 99% of men to avoid it because the financial and personal risk is insanely high.

[–]FortunateBum1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the latter. TRP is first of all a place where we can learn the truth about women, not the bullshit society wants us to think.
