I was replying to a comment regarding the need for the Nice Guy to experiment with his selfish, asshole side. When I got to thinking of the grass roots source of this duality.
Nature.
When in the wilderness long durations of total prestine calmness fill your time. The foliage infinitely wise and mesmerizing. It is in utter harmony with itself. These long durations of peace are punctuated with moments of brutal savagery and terror. The ripping of flesh from the bone and the merciless suffering and killing of innocence.
This is the perfect model for men. At all times be in a content, stoic calmness. A state of 99% positive nothing bad will befall you and 1% absolutely certain your death is a mere moment away. When the time comes, when your boundary is crossed, forgo all sanity and slay your enemies with savagery unknown to this world.
Nature is never discontent or conflicted unless it must be. And when it must be, it descends to levels few of us ever want to find in ourselves.
I say, find it. Know it is there. You may need to use it one day and it will mean the difference between you walking away or crumpled in a bloody heap, receiving only pity from those who glance upon your corpse. Conversely, find the peace. Cultivate stillness like a forest in the dead calm of pitch black silence.
If you've spent the majority of your life as a Nice Guy because you were conditioned to do so, you've been robbed of the fruit from the tree of knowledge. Blinded by those who understand that being truly and completely selfish is an absolutely necessary component in the pursuit of real power.
