To be fair though, long term compensation is significantly less valuable than the base pay and short term comp. Its stock grants that she basically can't touch for years and usually most of it is awarded up front, so she won't be getting 10 mil in stock next year. Like when Tim Cook took over Apple from Steve Jobs, he got a shitton of stock (500 mil if i remember correctly) that vests over 10 years. He isn't getting that every year, I'll tell you that much. I have no idea what the former GM CEO was awarded in stock.

The wealthiest people you've ever met typically got that way by taking as much long term equity compensation as they could get their hands on way back when... Typically in the form of options. Ms. Barra will be just fine.

I guess my point is, she won't be getting 10 mil per year in stock grants. Thats usually more of a 1 off type award when they first take over so that she has more incentive to drive the stock higher. Its not comparable to say she's making more than her predecessor based on those initial stock grants.

I don't know the details here, but these grants typically take the form of options which vest over a given period of time. Usually 4 years in my experience and, since he started in 2010, probably the same here. The options will continue to vest until you leave the company and then you have to exercise the options that have already vested.

Since Akerson was leaving, it made no sense to give him options, but instead some sort of a fully-vested parting gift.

But all of this is beside the point. the point is that there is NO anti-female gender bias in the story. None. Any man who took over would have gotten the same.

Hell, GM may have even been trying to curry favor with the PC set by hiring her. They did a lot of that in the 90s. But instead then the Huff Po took a big, steaming, ignorant dump on this would-be tale of one woman's empowerment.

Well I'll agree to that, I don't think she's taking a significant discount if one at all because she's a woman. It's ambiguous as to whether she is compensated more or less than her predecessor.

Year 1 compensation is almost always larger than subsequent years. She got 10 mil in stock grants to give her incentive to boost the stock price, she won't be getting that every year. You can't compare his last years compensation with her first years for that reason, its like taking a football players signing bonus and attributing it all to year 1 instead of over the life of the contract.

Hm, I guess I just saw issues like that as more of a Men's Rights thing, rather than red pill. Isn't red pill more about the characteristics of each gender, and how they inherently interact and perceive each other? Red Pill no doubt has an explanation for feminism, but this seems more political and specific to the western world, where as I see Red Pill as focusing on something deeper that seeks to deal with humanity as a whole.
