Suppose you lived your entire life on the beach. Often it's peaceful. However, occasionally vast waves sweep up the coast, threatening to wash you away into the icy ocean. You're helpless when this happens.
Fortunately, there are a number of rocks on the beach. When the tide rises, you can hold on to them and then you'll be safe from the floods.
There's just one problem. Some of these rocks are unreliable and weak. Naturally, weak rocks are disgusting and should be avoided at all costs. Still, even some of the rocks that look sturdy may turn treacherous when the waters sweep the beach. Imagine holding on to a rock for your dear life, and then having the rock suddenly start to lean on you!
So what's a woman to do? Well, test the rock of course. Poke it a bit, prod it a bit, maybe kick it a bit. Take a chisel and see if you can carve off a few pieces. If it's sturdy now, great; but are you certain the rock will be reliable next year too? It's best to keep testing it occasionally.
Hopefully the rock proves to be unbreakable. However, breaking the rock is an okay outcome too, because at least then you know and can find a sturdier rock. Also, you did your fellow women a service by weeding out a weak rock. Everyone wins, right?
