One of Freud's more controversial (and famous) theories is the Oedipus Complex. Little background: The name comes from the play Oedipus Rex, or rather off the mythological character Oedipus, the hero of the play, who kills his father and marries his mother. According to Freud, it forms a part of stage three of the five psychosexual development phases- the phallic stage. It was postulated as those emotions and ideas that the mind keeps in the unconscious, via dynamic repression, that concentrates upon a child's desire to have sexual relations with the parent of the opposite sex.

As astounding as this sounds (this is from 1900), reading up on it, I couldn't help but see a few parallels to what's been told time and again here.

The catch here: It's been mostly debunked.

I've a different view- only the conclusion was off. Let's consider what we discuss here- that men try to emulate the "pure" love that they've received from their mothers in all their romantic relationships. Women seek out the alphas- solid men who are unshakeable in their conviction and are guided. Wasn't this the input for Freud? Rather than squashing it all rightaway, on a bit of analysis we can see hints of redpill here- the yearning isn't for the parent, it's for what the parent stands for.

The ideal version of "love" seems to emanate from the parent: the parents of 1900 can hardly be compared to modern times'. The maternal instinct still remains strong however; what's gone down are solid father-figures. You can see this in a general rise in the number of loose women. The father figure of 1900 was the earner , and a man who could be called "old school cool", and the solid foundation of the family.

So here it's been all throughout, just a different conclusion drawn from it; the point still stands- no man can ever "recreate" the maternal love, and the yearning will remain (beta tendencies). He will yearn for a loyal and loving, and straight-forward relationship with an equal partner and get terribly disappointed in the real world. The woman seeks out the alpha who can "replicate" her father in an abstract way (women are children) and seek out the unshakeable stone- if you're a beta father, your daughter'll have no one to look up to, and you can be sure as hell she'll end up one of the easy ones. Or worse yet, a furry tumblrina.

Raise your children right, friends. Especially in this age and time.
