Disclaimer: I do not claim to be a great writer, at the same time I am wishing to improve it, part of it by writing this and working on quality, all constructive criticism is accepted on this front.
Summary: I have made a post early called 3SD, about the mentality I am going through and how I have applied the red pill theory. Today I am breaking down the abstract into a more concrete format so that there is a template that others can work with.
Body: I am a believer that a concept is only as great as how it is applied. Because of this I tend to research how something works and how to more efficiently apply it so that I am able to succeed. For the past couple of days, I have been riding the waves where I have had a string of high days, followed by low days in the past few and trying to rebound. I mention this because your mental state will guide you much through this. In a sense I am relearning self-discipline, in a manner that keeps me accountable and at the same time breaking down ambitious plans into digestible bites so that it sticks.
Before I begin I would like to share with you some of the systems that I myself have in place, and how they feed into this, the first one being my yearly goals. Every year a few weeks before my birthday, I imagine who I wish to become. This is because I am a visual learner, but tailor fit this to how you feel it should go for you. I need to see what that looks like, from the actions, body language, mentality, emotional and the whole overview what I perceive it to be. Understand that as you do every year, the image may change (Major/minor) and that is expected because as we grow we learn to value things differently. Once I have a concrete image, I think of what are the things I lack that are not allowing this from being a reality. So I will use my last birthday for example: I imagined myself with a lean body, six pack and all yet strong. Probably around 165 and much more flexible. Able to be more radiant as a person, and able to be social at will. While getting smarter, as well as either having my diploma or almost completing my degree. After that I had to find what I was lacking.
Things I was lacking: 1. I had no habit of going to the gym. 2. I knew nothing of working out. 3. I was in school so this was a high priority that needed to be maintained 4. My social circle tends to be mostly geared to outcasts, geeks, and nerds 5. I had approach anxiety and spent too much time in my head
Knowing this I was able to set down the goals in each area in order to keep myself going, as well as keep myself accountable.
Being Stronger Before I decide what I want to do at the gym, I need to define what I want to be strong for. I don’t know about you but I have no motivation for something that I feel would not be practical for me. So far I already know I have the strength to carry a full grown man in his body armor and gear out of a fire fight and have done that. So in being stronger my goal was both looking desirable and bigger, but at the same time being able to maintain and improve my current abilities. As a kicker I also wish to improve flexibility (Looking to down the road go back to martial arts training). I also realize diet is important to this goal so if I made a list what I perceived as being stronger looked something like this.
Be Stronger: 1. Able to Lift more then 300 lbs. or more 2. Improved flexibility, able to hold a kick out for extended period of time and have control 3. Supplement current healthy eating, so that muscles can grow
As I write this, I started 2 months ago at about 24-25% Body fat and I am currently at 20%. I find this important to me because that is my goal.
Being Smarter So I know I have not mentioned anything about being smarter, and there was a reason for that. Much of what it consists of were things continued and carried over from the previous year.
Be Smarter: 1. Learn about investing 2. Read books from TRP side bar 3. Work on specific actions so as to engrain them into memory a. Good posture b. Winning mentality c. Abundance mentality d. Nothing is Impossible 4. Meditation 5. Etc.…...
To break this down, I currently am wanting to break free from the Rat race, and I am investing while at the same time trying to seek opportunities. Currently just finished reading Stock Investing for Dummies 3rd edition to which I wanted to learn the basic of stock investment. In the past 2 months I have finished reading the 48 Laws of Power, and currently reading nor more Mr. Nice Guy before jumping into the 33 Laws of war. I fit my reading where I can but the goal is based off of a TED talk where a man said: “Reader are Leaders” I have compounded this with another idea. A few years back I was sitting in a class, and the instructor told me that our reality exists in a cycle. Our Beliefs lead to our Thoughts, Our Thoughts lead to how we act, and our actions reinforce our beliefs. I say this because for example with posture, much of the online materiel will tell you to do things to learn the habit through action. So that it reinforces the belief, and you naturally think of it. So if you deny yourself something every day, eventually you will deny it with out thinking. So every morning before I start doing yoga prior to my morning workout, I tell myself that I am awesome, and that I need to spread that with everyone. This breaks down into two beliefs I am working diligently on combating. The first being my self worth more specifically feeling like I have nothing to contribute. Second deals with being social, in order to spread it, I can’t hide or avoid it. Because of this it forces me to act and exist in the now and think less of what I am going to do and more on who is next. Side note: Sexual Strategy is removed from the equation for now because I would like to be able to communicate as well as become outcome independent, so that my sexual strategy is really no strategy at all.
A tertiary process that also gets combated is the defeatist mentality, I was not always like this but instead of dwelling on why I could not be how I use to be, I can grab what was my mantra that lead me to that. Gentlemen, when I did Track and Field, there were races where the odds were heavily stacked against me. In my head I did not see that, in my head I was driving myself insane by saying that nothing is impossible. Being a Pragmatic man allow me to better explain it. Nothing in this world is truly impossible, you have one of three limiting factors, either you have no prepared enough, you have no idea yet, or there are forces you do not understand against you. Most of the time, it is the fact that you have no idea. No idea that you can achieve this, no idea that when your tired remember your only at 40% and that you need to take the other 60% by force from your body. This all begins with your belief, train your belief and mold it to line up with your actions so that instead of having to remind yourself it does the work for you. I currently go to the gym Monday to Friday unknowingly now. Does not matter how much I really don’t want to go; my body gets me there because it knows at 1600 my ass is in the gym.
Be Social So I stress social as my main deficit in myself, because I rarely socialized with anyone even as a child. I took the term actions more than words literal, which lead me to naturally be stoic. As a child Laws 3,4 and 9 are the ones I felt I needed to survive (I grew up on a street that was the boarder between two gangs). Because of this I tend to keep a poker face at all times regardless of the situation. Because of this, I have to learn all those lessons that I missed out on. Smiling being the first one, yes I admit I have no natural smile so I am experimenting. I open everyone I meet regardless of rank, station or location. I spoke to someone at the gym, and I started by spotting him because he was bench pressing by himself. After that I told him to do 2 more so that he can push himself. Because of meditating I find myself doing, more than I think. This has led me to meet more people, since I have removed having a need for an intention I am able to talk to anyone and attempt to understand where they’re coming from, and possibly learn how to bring them into my frame. Frame is important but if your like me who has no core understanding of it (meaning I understand the concept but not to a point where I can draw upon it at will), I start small in a sense trying to keep vibing with someone, while making them feel like they are the star of the conversation. My goal for my 28th year is infecting the world with my awesomeness. This may seem goofy, but in making it fun, I am able to stick with it because it is in terms I understand; yet I am also able to enjoy the journey while I struggle.
Demand Excellence So far we have discussed what we want to achieve. In my case I want to be stronger, leaner, flexible, more financially aware, and social. So the execution is where you start to demand excellence from yourself. What does this mean? It means that 10,000 hours of “Precise” Practice needs to be applied. Notice how I add the words Precise. I can go to the gym lift a 10 lb. dumbbells and get mad because I am making no progress, or I can figure out the proper form as well as variations to give me more from my reps. An example is one of my leaders told me how I can get more out of my flys by squeezing my chest and rotating my arms a little. Doing that made me drop in weight so that I can focus on form, but at the same time because my workouts are now becoming more precise in movement I am noticing results faster. This precision is what I have tried to apply to everything else. Socially I want to be able to talk to someone and have them be receptive to me, that is how I am being precise socially. I am reading books to expand my knowledge and view so that I am able to be superior to my previous self, I have focused on books that will improve me, while working on speed of reading and speed of comprehension. I become stronger by building the habit of eating right and working out, and focusing on my form and execution of both eating and working out. But there is a thing about the execution that I have not discussed. Especially guys who are starting TRP allow me to show you a gold nugget that will help you start and maintain it. I staggered everything on my laundry list of items (There are more things not mentioned in this post).
Execution comes down to a three-part process for me. Planning the start, this includes logistics, scheduling, and practicality. My best time to be at the gym is between 1500-1700 because the chow hall opens up at 1700 for dinner. So I want to have my workout down so that I can get food and refuel. It is doable because around that time 7 days a week I have about an 80% chance of being free. This works for me it may be different for you. The second phase is the reminder, because this is a daily item and not a through out the day item, I need an alarm for the first few weeks letting me know I need to force myself there. Start small sometimes just getting there is a small victory over not going at all. The purpose is you need to build the habit so that your belief system picks this up. After that I move to the last stage and maintain it. So as your doing this you repeat this process with your next most important item, leading to staggered started on different things. Tip: there are apps out there that can help with this, and actual posts here on TRP of people who discuss this more in detail and when I find them I will recognize those posts. Understand that you need to hold yourself accountable, figuring out some sort of punishment if necessary to get yourself back on track and eventually your mind will keep you in line.
In summary, this post was aimed more for the new members who may feel overwhelmed, or need some way of systematically breaking it down so that it is manageable to get started. Understand this is what has worked for me, it may or not work for everyone, but it is possible to take what works out of it for yourself and ultimately make it your own in a way that seems to work for you.
TLDR: Realize what needs to change, Plan the change, stagger change, so that each new introduction become a habit before moving on, and maintain.
Shoutout to bard_flavored for tips from the last time.
As I said in the beginning I am open to any constructive criticism in regards to the writing.
