People like to think of humans as more evolved and above behavior like described within this post.

However, we are a product of our environment. Intelligence and other advantages that we have as humans were a result of natural selection. That said, there are still millions and millions of years of evolution of the human species and a mere 100 years is not enough time to remove aspects of our genetic heritage that have become less useful in modern society... That said, I have to wonder if such actions would even be smart because ultimately society could collapse at any point and the reality of the situation is in a state of nature we would be little more than a bunch of very smart monkeys.

I should point out that, evolutionarily speaking, humans are much more distant from gorillas than, say, chimpanzees and bonobos. So projecting our social structure onto gorillas (or vice versa) is a bit of a stretch. Please take with a grain of salt.
