This is not a bad idea as the power of language in connection with your internal thought process or external manipulation is (rightly) celebrated here.
Lower discourse is the sign of a lower mind; thus polishing discourse is to polish the mind.
If there is to be such a sub, it will be important to 'teach a man to fish'. Otherwise it will just be a mod-queue of volunteers doing the literary work of people who should be in the linguistic trenches themselves.
Do your plans involve resources in this vein? For example, George Orwell's essay Politics and the English Language. I also read a lot of Hunter S. Thompson; read your favourite authors, and their verbosity, their craft, their very thought processes will rub off on you.

Hunter S Thompson will teach you how to stretch words while rambling. Stylistically irrelevant for most things but so satisfying to read.

Yeah you're completely right. Context is king; his style would not work for a business proposal. But I think being entertaining to deliver a point in an essay is fine, or even advantageous, if you remain intellectually honest. At times Hunter may have pushed this.

I am by no means a professional writer, but I dabble.
Any contributions you would like to make are most welcome. If you have any other documents you'd like to have added to the sidebar of the sub, send me a list. George Orwell is great, a personal favourite of mine. Hunter S. is also a great.
As for the rules and goals of the sub - apart from "improve your writing", that's wide open at the moment.

Apparently it is reasonably hard - hard enough for mods to be deleting posts in an orgy since bringing in the new rules.
