Mass shootings like the one today are the result of ignorance of mental illness in men caused by the repression and demonization of masculinity in modern America.

Usually, the mass shooting types were bullied or isolated early in life due to a lack of a strong father figure, often raised in a single-mother household or with a distant father. They feel outcasted, antisocial, and unable to thrive in the world. They are constantly rejected and shamed and have no idea how to address it. Over their lives, this builds and builds until they are pushed over the edge into mental illness (malignant psychopathy) and turn to negative outlets.

If society wants to fix the issue, we need to recognize this issue for what it is. With an increasing lack of outlets for the expression of masculinity, an increasing lack of good partnerships and healthy households, and an increased demonization of masculinity as a whole, we are seeing the true consequences of a society where masculinity is oppressed. I think awareness should be spread not only about the mental illness that leads to these shootings, but what causes this mental illness in the first place.
