it’s not the most physically appealing people who get approached, but the ones who signal their availability and confidence through basic flirting techniques like eye contact and smiles.

The only way I can think to respond to that is by pointing out that one has data backing it up, while the other is a feeling / anecdotal / unfounded perspective.

Don't forget: anecdotes are good for drawing emotional responses, but are the absolute lowest example of evidence by a scientific standard. If the goal of TRP is truth, regardless of how ugly it is or how it may conflict with our internalized ideals, then this is at its core TRP. You can't argue with facts (unless you're willing to unleash your own hamster).
