This the path to TRP for many.

Time and reflection lead to Stoicism. We're not unfeeling. Nor are we living detached from emotion. They just take a backseat; we know emotions are in-the-moment and capricious and let us make mistakes.

When I think back to my own unicorn, I realize she wasn't pure white as the driven snow and that I glued the horn on her. Oneitis is like permanent beer goggles on steroids for the soul.

[–]1PantsonFire12341 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Genius way to sum it up.

Oneitis is a very devious thing that can sneak up on you for literally any girl. If you are desperate enough and they get through to the inner walls its over. Fortify yourself.

Yeah I'm totally privy to the highly probable possibility of her riding a CC, and I guess this one is the latest edition to the winter land of snowflakes. That emotion is short term but ever so painful; it tends to overshadow any sort of accomplishment or goals you've made thusfar.

How do you guys deal with genuine heartbreak-- for example, knowing a certain woman and yourself are never destined to be together, or just not being wanted by a certain person?

We insert our penis into the vaginas of different bitches.

[–]unassumingusername70 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Our collective penis? Does that make it a gangbang?

[–]4benny2lava00 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Won't be her first, nor her last

C'est la vie. Accept it, and move on. There'll always be another woman.

What has been bothering me of late is that I can probably find a woman who fits the RP bill, and I can do the associated dance with a LTR, but I'm not sure it'll be a person with whom I have an intense feeling for

That's just naive thinking and shows you're still plugged in. Not your fault though, it's because of chemicals in your brain. Everything gets better with time.

Don't make your happiness contingent on finding an LTR or chasing women, instead now is your time to maximize your potential. Hit the gym, chase that degree, job, promotion, travel the world and all that.

Remember, there'll always be another woman.

I guess you're right about the chemicals/time-- this blow of love seriously fucking hurts, and triggers my depression. I'm always trying to increase my smv with the gym and I'm in med school, but this shit gets to me sometimes. Thanks for the input

[–]Chinzon1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hey bro, I'm usually a lurker here on this sub, but let me tell you something. I'm also a medical student that has recently finished M1. For a good part of spring I was head over heels for a girl that couldn't give two Fucks about me. I was upset for a long time, but then I came across TRP. It was because of the men on this sub that I learned how important it was to find value in myself instead of looking for it in other people. I know I still haven't fully taken the pill. But in a few short months of working towards making it a part of who I am, I've seen myself improve at the gym, take charge in my friend group and generally live a happier daily life. At its core this is all about self improvement and learning not to let others take advantage of us. Learn to find value within yourself and work hard to hone it and make yourself the best you can be brother.

[–]norstar1-2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the words of encouragement... you're a med student so I think you can empathize better. We have to study our asses off before we become anything remotely important, and by that point our smv has usually diminished. What're we left with at that point? Mostly either gold-diggers or women who've hit the wall after riding the CC through their prime. That's something that has been hitting me hard as of late, and I'm trying to consolidate what good years I have left to make something of myself. I'm hitting the gym consistently but it definitely gets to me sometimes.

If I didn't have you, someone else would do...

[–]norstar1-3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I hope I'm not romanticizing it, but how can you NOT live with a doubt that you aren't as happy as you could've been? That irks me bigtime

[–]throwaway16431 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can never know, but the beauty is that it doesn't matter. My favourite existentialist author, Albert Camus (you should read 'The Fall'), has a fantastic quote:

Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time.

Any "happiness" is only finite and ephemeral. All relationships, plates, girlfriends, etc. are temporary. One day, you will grow old, if you're lucky. Then, you will most probably suffer from age related dementia, physical illness, organ failure then die alone, and it all ends.

Given that's going to happen, and you can't change the past, what are you going to do NOW? I too have had oneitis in the past. I could have been happier, true. Or, I could have been much worse. It doesn't matter, because you can't change what has happened, and therefore worrying about it is a waste of your precious finite time.

How you spend your time is the most powerful thing you have control over. I can't force other people to behave a certain way, but I certainly can control what I do, and how I spend my finite time on things that matter to me. This way, I can take control of my happiness and not depend on other people, and most certainly not worry about what could have been, which is just a waste of time at the end of the day.

  1. knowing a certain woman and yourself are never destined to be together

I've never known this. I've had crushes but I always attribute that to me being lazy and not investing in myself and giving myself time to let my needs not get met elsehwere.

  1. just not being wanted by a certain person

God creates over 16 new hotties every HOUR in the United States.

'm not sure it'll be a person with whom I have an intense feeling for.

You have intense feelings for yourself and for your future. She's there to meet some needs you have, but your #1 love should be your life.

[–]Retro93 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

knowing a certain woman and yourself are never destined to be together, or just not being wanted by a certain person?

So much wrong here, where the fuck do I begin...

Destiny is bullshit. Nothing is pre-destined, nothing is "supposed" to be happen. Things happen because of 1) random chance or 2) outside forces acting upon that object. You make your own destiny by getting up each day and working towards it.

Love is a delusion. All love is unrequited and goes unappreciated. What, you expected something from her? Then you're bargaining, not loving. You still have the BP mentality of "if I just do this and this and this, then she'll love me!" She won't. Because she can't.

And what's this shit about being destined to be together? Smells like oneitis. Get the fuck over her, she isn't special. None of them are, and very few have the potential to ever be. Not that it matters. Your mentality is going to run off any worthwhile girl that you encounter.

Focus on yourself. Stop thinking about girls for like two seconds and hear me out. You've probably spent more time today thinking about that bitch or her disgusting gash than you have improving yourself today. Ask yourself, what the fuck have you done today. What have you done for yourself? What have you created? What have you learned? If you can't answer these questions, why would she ever "love" you? You sit in your room and think about girls all day. That shit is creepy if you think about it from their perspective, no matter how thoughtful or whatever you think you're being.

Don't settle for "love." It's fickle. Aim to be admired and desired. Be knowledgeable, interesting, entertaining. Have projects that you work on. Find what you love and do it. You aren't going to do these things by dwelling on the fact that your feelings are hurt because some average bitch doesn't love you back. Feelings are a luxury that only the important can afford. Nobody gives a fuck about your feelings unless you deserve to be catered to. And as it stands, you don't deserve a damn thing.

Still with me? Good. Reach into your pants and make sure your nuts are still attached. You're gonna need them.

[–]ComradeCynic0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know exactly how you feel. For myself, reading Marcus Aurelius provided the best mental adjustment.

[–]Endorsed ContributorRunawayGrain0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

knowing a certain woman and yourself are never destined to be together, or just not being wanted by a certain person?

By realizing that if you did get together with them, after a few months the sex would get boring and you would be left dealing with the actual person and not the ideal image your mind created.

but I'm not sure it'll be a person with whom I have an intense feeling for.

I love classic cars. I am looking for a 69 Dodge Charger to restore, and as such I've been looking over what others have done to restore one. I understand the process, and what I will have to do once I have an engine and transmission combo I like. It's going to be a pain in the ass, but I will definitely have a great time with that car. The same applies to women. Just because you know how to handle a woman the way she wants to be handled doesn't mean you can't have feelings for her.

[–]norstar1-2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're right, it's idealizing/romanticizing something I should be looking at more objectively.

You're right-- it's all about hormones and fleeting emotions. Sometimes they just overcome you.

[–]4benny2lava00 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Understand the game is different and one thing that has not changed is the games concern with how you feel. The deck is stacked against you and you have no room for sunk costs, revenge, retribution etc. When you find someone worth it, the feelings will develop.
