The betaization process explained and how to counter it

Seems fairly accurate in light of the primary LTRs in my adult life. Where it diverges for me is how the continuing damaging effects of my upbringing - and certain religion-influenced attitudes about sex - kept me from noticing the first three phases very much.

Regardless, I always noticed when the disrespect started kicking in, and I always hated it. There really is no turning back from that once it's entrenched. I'm kind of stuck in that situation right now, actually... she's a decent enough person that she doesn't let it get out of control, but unless our relationship undergoes some radical & risky major surgery I don't think it's going to get better again. Once you establish that last-stage beta pattern, regaining respect is going to be next to impossible. Your only hope at that point (if there is any) would be a massive, total, actual personality change that constantly asserts/reinforces itself to differentiate it from the prior beta state-- and, of course, her accepting this.
