Summary: Keep them wanting more.
Body: I was talking with one of my friends about women, and he asked me what guys mean when they say not to give girls too much attention. From this spawned "The Video Game Parable". I'm sure this can be spun a thousand different ways, but it's 2016 and a lot of us were beta gamer losers before, so I used video games.
Say you're looking to buy a video game, and you're down to 2 options.
Video game A tells you everything you need to know, and don't need to know. It tells you how the game will go. It tells you what you should do and shouldn't do. It even tells you the cheat codes so you won't have to dig for it. Though it may still sound fun, the actual thrill of the video game comes from playing it out yourself, not having it laid out for you.
Video Game B has a very well designed cover. A lot of time has been put into it. But it doesn't give away much else. There's a brief manual, but that's it. In order to find out the rest, you'll actually have to play it. You've heard it's a fun game, however. It catches the eye, and leaves you wanting more. The game developers don't care where you specifically buy it or not, because surely someone else will.
Which game would you rather buy? Chances are you and most people would buy Video Game B, because what you enjoy is the rush and the adventure of finding out what the game is about. You might even play it more than once, because each time you'll find something new you didn't know.
I hope you understand this metaphor. When you lay out everything and anything about you, there's no more thrill, no more excitement in the chase. But if you present that attractive exterior, and leave the rest for others to pursue, that's when you truly enter the game.

Me too. I used to play a lot of league, but nowadays I can't stop feeling like shit about it because I know the time could be spent on other things.
Other hobbies are definitely sinks, but there is something out there for you and it doesn't have to be as intense as learning how to play piano.
For example I like to dance, but I also love biology. I read books about it, I take classes about, I love it.
The last time I hung out with one of my theater friends and we were eating seafood. I ordered clams, and being high I just kinda felt like telling him all the cool shit I learned from when I dissected a clam (lies, I ordered them on purpose). I pointed its lungs, its foot (yes it has a foot), told him about how it lives, eats, fucks.
For a moment my hobby made me cool. It made me interesting to another equally interesting person. Video games probably won't do that, nor will they have opened doors for meeting my theater friend in the first place.
I know this is going to sound sappy but the things that truly make you happy are experiences and connections with real people that you respect, adore, maybe love. You will never get those with video games. They fill a base need in the very same way porn does, but you will never look back at those days you played video games the same way I look back at that day with the clams
So if you like to dance in you underwear like I did, invest a little in that. If you love to sing in the shower, invest. Hell even if you love sciences, invest. It will pay off so much better because people will want to experience what you have for them
