"Shaming" is a topic that gets brought up a lot around here, mostly because feminists are always complaining about it and we are always complaining about the insanity of their complaints.

But something that everyone should realize about "shaming" is that "shaming" is not actually a thing that exists. No person can "shame" you. The actual activity that is occurring is criticism, and when the person being criticized feels ashamed of what is being criticized about them, and when they have a hampster that goes into overdrive to try to deny responsibility for that feeling of shame, then they blame their personal feelings of shame on the person criticizing them. They decry this person as being guilty of "[bad quality] shaming" a la "fat shaming", "slut shaming", "[insert random feminist topic of the day] shaming".

The reality is that what these people are trying to silence is not "shaming" but merely criticism. They are trying to silence the criticism because they feel ashamed of the qualities in themselves that are being criticized, and instead of surrendering or accepting this shame, they would prefer to psychologically suppress it. But they can't successfully suppress it while people are bringing it up as a target of criticism, and thus they seek to silence the criticizers by claiming that "shaming" people is abuse of some sort and needs to be stopped.

A man or woman that is not ashamed cannot be "shamed" by anyone. If someone criticizes you and you feel no shame, you just brush off the criticism and continue with your life.

I guess the application of this post would be summed up as: If you don't want to be shamed, then don't feel ashamed. Be accepting and even proud of who you are and the qualities you possess. Or, if you can't do that, then change those qualities so that they are no longer a target for criticism (ie if you are "fat shamed" then lose weight, instead of trying to make everyone think you are beautiful, which isn't gonna happen).
