One other point to consider that hasn't been brought up is divorce stuff. If you let her stay home and not work if it did happen that you ended up divorced it would be a lot easier for the system to justify giving her more of your money since she might no longer have up to date skills for working or whatever.

I think it's good for both parents to work. Your family income matters more than your individual income. The more money you make, the more opportunities you'll be able to provide for yourself and your family (most importantly the child). Neither of you should quit your jobs, instead you should try to keep rising in your individual workplaces to increase fiscal flow into your bank accounts. Money runs the world, and will open lots of doors for you and those you care about.

Depending on how much she can make it may or may not make financial sense. If you're planning to have more kids then the economics really start to shift in favor of staying at home, unless she's a high earner.

Another advantage is that you can in all fairness make her do all the cooking and cleaning.

Dude, you define your relationship. This one line here makes me worry about you:

She is always pointing out that her friends beta husbands let them stay home and never work blah blah blah.

Tell her to stop playing the comparison game. When you play that game, you only see the rosy side of it and not all the shit that goes along with it.

My wife stays at home with the kid, and I'm fucking grateful because I know that there are only two people who give a fuck about my child's well-being. I go to work with the comfort of knowing that there is someone around my boy 24/7 who will take care of him and make decisions as if they were coming from me.

Moreover, the domestic thing isn't to be looked down on if done right - it brings me a great deal of peace to come home to a clean house, warm meal, happy child and to know that when i leave the next day that my son is safe.

Generally speaking it's best for the kid's development to stay with the mother 24/7 at ages 0-3, but if your woman is working and your kid is already two years old then that's moot at this point.

There's no reason for her quit her job at this point. The kid will presumably go to preschool in about a year or so, then on to school, so the woman is better advised to keep her job and career (if it's that kind of job).

Also consider that returning to employment after maternal leave comes with its own host of problems.

She should absolutely work, there's no excuse for her not to in 2014. Taking care of 1 child and doing some housework is not, unlike what Oprah would have you believe, 2, 1 even 0.5 of a full time job.

Now if this were 1814 and being a stay at home mom meant handwashing clothes, cooking dinner and caring for 9 kids, the house and you sure, that's a full time job.

She stays at home = automatic BB for you, no matter how you carry yourself.
