About a year ago I met a girl through mutual male friend, Dale. Dale was close with Flo, and had strong feelings for her. I did my best to help him land her, but she eventually told him she valued their friendship more- and that was that.

Cut to 5 months later, Flo and I go out and end up having what was probably the best "date" I've ever had. We make out, and I break up with my girlfriend the next day, telling Flo that I can't in good conscious be with a girl I've cheated on, stressing that Im not trying to rush into things with her, although I do like her very much.

We go out on a few dates and then the subject of Dale comes up. I tell her we should only tell Dale if/when we decide things should progress. That seems ok until I mention drunkenly that Dale is seeing someone.

A few days later she tells me she may have feelings for Dale (they'e been friends for years at this point) and she then tells him about us and her feelings for him. I say that's totally fine, I wish them the best.

Weeks go by. I inquire to find out if they're together. She tells me they're not. I then call her and see if wants a second date a few days later. She says she doesn't want to date anyone right now. I got a bit upset because of the gravity of losing my friend (and her) for seemingly no reason though I was calm and logical about it, simply asking if it was a purely physical attraction (she claims it wasn't).

Months later, I see that they are hanging out again (not sure on what terms), and I can't get her the fuck out of my head. I wrote her to tell her I have no animosity or anything and she was echoed the sentiment.

But I'm wondering if I have a play here? What is the recommended course of action? And what did I do wrong? I "betrayed" a good friend and really hurt my ex (even though I knew things wouldn't work out with my ex) for the chance to be with her. I thought cutting off all contact with her might help but I need to know whether or not I should forget her.
