Yes, I think it's gross if someone masturbates to an image of what they know is a 15-year-old child

first of all: im glad you understood my point. see, 15 year olds are not children. but they are not adult either. so yes i wouldnt date a 15 year old.

however, attraction is something humans have no control over. if you see a hot guy and you feel like you want to fuck that man, well thats not a choice you made, is it? the same way, if i see a female human that is biologically able to have a child my brain is programmed to feel attraction. there is nothing i can do about it.

a pedo is somebody whos brain is wired to be attracted to females who are not of biological age (pre puberty, no feminine body charactatistics, no feminine figure, no breasts and so on).

i could show you and any men 100 picture, 50 of those girls between 15 and 18 and another 50 girls above 18 and you couldnt tell me which one of those are above 18 and which are under the age of 18. you would have to guess.

so, coming here and trying to shame us for some reason is pretty cheap. put some more thought into it.

It's not about the body ultimately. 15-year-olds are children, perhaps not anatomically, but legally

the monkey part of your brain that handles attraction doesnt care. it sees an ass and tits and wants to fuck.

I could understand being attracted if you assumed that they were of legal age

the hundreds of thousends of years old monkey part of your brain that handles your emotions and your sexual attraction doesnt care about the laws that are in place for a few hundred years. laws dont override evolution.

I don't buy that you can't control your attraction. Attraction is as much culturally and morally learned as it is biological

maybe culture plays a role in that, still it doesnt override your "lizard" brain. and no, you cant simply push a button in your head and stop being attracted.

Your defense is something that I've seen MRAs argue against: the idea that men are sexual automatons with no control over their thoughts.

just because im attracted to somebody doesnt mean im going to jump on them and rape them in my cave. yes we have self control and we can decide not to act on our desires. just like you can decide not to eat something even when you are hungry... but the hunger is still there.

Culture plays the largest role in attraction. I find it kind of sad that your main defense is that you're more "monkey" or "lizard" than human. A lot of recent psychological research has shown that we can control what we had once assumed was simply instinct. Most of it comes down to what you believe: do you believe that being attracted to a 15-year-old is right or wrong? If you believe that it is right, you will maintain the attraction and indulge it by subjecting poor internet women like myself to a revealing picture of a 15-year-old...twice. If you believe it is wrong, you're more likely to steer away from the attraction.

Here's an example: you probably believe that being attracted to your first cousin is wrong. The fact is that in many ancient cultures it was not only considered natural, but first cousin marriage was encouraged. It is still that way in many Muslim societies. If you find yourself checking out some girl's ass, and upon turning around you realize that she is your first cousin, won't you feel disgusted?

That disgust is completely chalked up to cultural belief.

I do want to add the small caveat that of course there are people out there with mental illnesses that can't control themselves as easily, but I'm assuming that you do not have a mental illness.

if you are interested in debating about attraction, culture, the effect culture has on people than you could make a new post and describe your views there and see what others think about it and if they have something to add or know studies that suggest something contrary to your opinion.

That all being said, I really am sort of tired of this debate, but less so because of you and more so because I'm just ready to go talk about something else. But I might take you up on your advice to start my own post about these topics.

you should seperate opinions and ideas from the people who have them. it is possible to disagree without making it personal and hating everybody who has a differnt opinion. because most of the time the truth is somewhere in between and both are right and wrong to a part.

since you seem to actually educate yourself on topics before posting something, stick around, read the articles from the sidebar and add something to the conversations here.

You bring up a good point (thanks for referencing an actual theory). However, I don't know what it is about science lately, but we're putting too much stock into evolutionary instinctual behaviors. The main advantage of homo sapiens over any other species, the advantage that allowed us to conquer the world, is our ability to adapt through culture. Almost any biologically instinctual tendency can be overridden by cultural beliefs. Like I said, up until recently, cousin marriage was normal and accepted, a tradition going back several hundred thousand years (2.6 million covers the genus Homo rather than the species Homo sapien, which goes back about 250,000 years). The idea that it can cause inbreeding is actually somewhat of a myth. Our repulsion to being attracted to our first cousins is completely cultural.

believing the world is one way, when its not in reality will not help. you believe that its immoral to fuck or date somebody below a certain age? ok. you can have that position and you can defend that position with im sure good arguments.

however, it isnt helpful to force men to pretend they are not attracted to a female body, that they are biologically programmed to find attractive, by shaming them. it doesnt change the reality.

you dont have a switch in your head which you can use to stop being attracted to somebody.

the next time you are in love test it out. just stop being in love with that person for a day and then turn the switch back on the next day. if you can turn off your attraction then you should be able to just turn off every other emotion/ desire you have.

a bold claim but one without any evidence. all cultures are have marriage. all cultures have a form of the golden rule (dont do to others, what you dont want to be done to you), all cultures have religion, war, are male dominated and so on. if DNA doesnt play a role, why do all cultures share so many things? why arent there more cultures that are female dominated? why arent there more culture without a form of marriage?

you think that cousins are not attracted to each other, but in reality there are plenty of those who are. they simply dont talk about it in public and would never admit it because they know that its a taboo.

for the same reason who have many men who will tell you that they would never be attracted to a female under the age of 18, but if you show them the picture i showed you and tell them she is 21 they will be attracted to that body. and to say that the attraction just goes away after finding out her real age is bullshit. they simply not they are not supposed to be attractred to a 15 year old and they will to themselves and to you.

culture does play a role, its the result of our DNA. but it does come from our DNA. otherwise we would have much more variety in our cultures.

Thank you for another thoughtful response. I understand where you are coming from, but you have a few logical flaws:

For instance, you assume that love = sexual attraction. I kind of agree that you can't switch off love, but I bet you anything there are several things that can switch off your sexual attraction towards a woman. For instance, you meet a beautiful woman with great "tits and ass," as you so gracelessly put it earlier. But then she reveals to you that she likes to murder kittens for fun, or [insert your major turnoff here]. I would assume that there are a number of things that would make that warm tingly feeling melt away immediately.

This is your non-lizard brain kicking in. Sure, you can get turned on by looking at a picture, but I'm talking about the turnoff part. The part that causes revulsion. If your belief system considers sexual attraction to a minor to be a repulsive taboo, you can very easily switch off the attraction. If you believe it only in principle but not as a part of your deeply ingrained value system, you can't switch off the attraction.

I suspect that you can't switch off the attraction because you agree that it is wrong to fuck 15 year olds in principle, but your culture has given you subtle hints all over the place that it is perfectly fine to think whatever you want behind closed doors.

I know this probably sounds oppressive and anti-free thought, but consider this: if you're like most Western men, you probably are repulsed by the idea of fucking a morbidly obese chick. But I'm sure you are aware that there are cultures all over the world that consider obesity to be the prime example of beauty. I'm sure to both groups, each preference seems so deeply ingrained that it might as well be part of their DNA. That is culture. Culture seems like instinct because humans are so good at adapting it into the psyche.

I'm so very excited that you brought this up, because this is a logical fallacy that probably 90% of the population holds true. Allow me to enlighten you on the beautiful history of humanity!

The idea the culture is biological is...antiquated, to put it kindly. Humans have a huge amount of variety in culture, and that variety was much more pronounced before the Agricultural Revolution. You are right that many cultures share certain similarities, but that's not due to our DNA.

You see, before about 10-15 thousand years ago, most human societies were hunter-gatherers. As long as there was no competition for resources, war was rare. Structurally speaking, societies were egalitarian and small scale. Some societies didn't even have much of a division of labor between male and female (i.e. women could hunt, men could gather)

When the last ice age hit, the amount of habitable land shrunk, crowding all of the disparate H&G societies into small pockets, including Mesopotamia. Increased competition for resources brought on wars and the need to work harder for food. You see, many people think that H&G societies required grueling hours of work, but this is false. H&G typically requires less than 4 hours of labor per day. So, agriculture was invented not because someone miraculously discovered it, but because it was necessary. Although it yields more food per square foot than H&G, it demands 10-11 hours of work per day to maintain.

And so began the horrifying spiral that lead to where we are today. More hours of labor demanded that more children be born to help on the farm. More mouths to feed meant that more land had to be exploited, which required more labor, which required more land, and so on and so on.

Population exploded. Societies became denser. For reasons that are a little too complicated to explain here (and I know this response is getting long), there is a direct correlation between population density of a society and level of hierarchy. Class and caste systems emerged. People specialized in one type of labor.

And here is where I address your assumptions: resources became scarcer and scarcer, bringing about more wars. Gender roles solidified, bringing about the modern version of marriage, which is essentially the transaction of women (this has largely disappeared in Western society thanks to feminism). There are many other theories behind marriage, and I encourage you to read Levi-Strauss' theories on kinship. Even religion changed. Before agriculture, it was usually a form of ancestor worship, which is a misnomer and was actually more like ancestor reverence. Theism was a direct result of hierarchical societal structure. I'm sure you've heard of the theory that religion is essentially a reflection of society. The reason why there have been no matriarchies is hotly debated, but I think it has to do with either the fact that women give birth to children and therefore [insert the brilliant explanation by Levi-Strauss that I have a hard time articulating] or simply because they're generally physically weaker than men.

Okay, so here is the moral of the story: The similarities you see in cultures the world over are easily explained by the fact that we all have a very similar society structure based around hierarchy and competition for resources.

in that example i wouldnt turn my attraction off consciously. i would simply stop being attracted to her upon learning this about her, or not.

if i would lose attraction for a person after finding out that she likes to kill kittens, its not evidence that i have control over who i am attracted to. it wouldnt be a choice.
