I have done a 5 day fast before.
I went to the nutrition shop and bought a big tub of green veggie powder and one a day men's vitamin.
Took three shakes a day. One for breakfast, one for lunch and one after I worked out. I worked out normally with heavy weights and a little cardio.
Results were good I lost 12 pounds but if course it was not all fat. I felt good overall but nothing life changing. but unless you are super obese I really don't see a point going 5 days unless you absolutely have to cut weight as fast as possible.
It's a real mental fuck at times. I remember day 2-3 were bad for me. But if you're head strong on going for a 5 day, drink plenty of water and be ready to be a little on edge, warn loved ones and friends beforehand. Good luck

The key for me was drinking enough water throughout the day at a little over one gallon.

The most I did was 60 hours.
I felt really good in terms of energy and focus, but the gnawing hunger sensation never went away. I meant to go 72 hours, but I couldn't do it. Not because I was that hungry, but because I needed to go to the washroom every 15 minutes or so and completely destroy the toilet with alien liquid shits and I was not about it (especially at work).
But holy shit was the Shawarma I ate after the fast the best thing I have ever tasted in my life.

Hmm .. and thanks all. I have been on intermittent versions, but wanted to try the whole bang. There are a lot of alleged health benefits, but not that much research. The 5 day version does not burn that much muscle.
And yes. Human body is made for not eating for days π

Intermittent fasting, cold therapy, and high intensity exercise are the only 3 scientifically proven methods to extend life.
That said, I have never tried fasting for 5 days. What is the purpose of that?

It is kinda reboot of your immune system, a mental cleansing, and should boost overall energy levels

What is your goal with the fast?

Try how it feels (and to shave just some fat)

Have you fasted before? 5 days can be a lot to jump into, but overall I say go for it. My first fast ever was a 4 day, but I was already eating a keto-type diet, which makes it easier for the body to shift into a fasted state.
The first three days will be the toughest, and you'll find yourself wanting to eat out of habit, so make sure you have some activities lined up to keep yourself occupied.
It was interesting. Probably easier during work than vacation since your days are more programmed. Also, continued gym routine afterwards, and was able to lift with the same weights than before (hypertrophic plan).

Why? The human body is not meant to go 5 days without food.
[β]Ebrii2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
why do we have fat storage worth of thousands of calories then?
[β]TigerXtrm1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
As an emergency buffer for when the brain of said body has some stupid idea like not eating for 5 days.

What am I supposed to do with that link?

Humans have integrated fasting for various health reasons for most of history; it's mostly our current society that believes you need to eat every single day. Giving your body some time to rest once in a while has shown to boost the immune system, improve metabolic processes, and regenerate damaged cells.
