tl;dr: friend acting either awkwardly nice or some real beta behaviour not sure...

I have this friend who is dating a woman who was into me before she met him (I turned her down because whilst nice she was really landwhale material).

He keeps doing odd things for me (in front of her and his other friends if that matters); and I have no idea if he is trolling or actually some next level beta or just being an overly caring friend.

A couple months ago we were at the pub and someone spilled some water on the table, a few drops got on my phone, thought nothing of it (S7, a few drops of water won't kill it); he was like "oh shit your phone!", "no its ok, its just a few drops", he proceeded to wipe my phone with his clean (apparently) shirt. I thanked him. It was somewhat embarassing.

The other day, we were a small group outside the pub, in the rain, about to leave and he noticed my laces had come a bit undone, I brushed it off saying I never had a problem walking on my own laces or something like that. He knelt down and did my fucking laces, whilst I stood there feeling like an idiot. I thanked him but really puzzled...

it is worth noting that in the pecking order scale (whilst I don't like referring it to it that way) I think we are probably roughly equal.
