I am in this situation and I would recommend interviewing at other places and getting an offer. Then take it to your boss and explain you want more compensation and you have another offer proving you are worth more. Phrase it in a way that you would prefer to stay at your current role but you just want to be paid your market value. (Which is determined by the offer you got.) Who knows you might get a dope as offer and decide to leave regardless. If the other offer is strong and acceptable to you, then you can straight up tell them how much it is so they know what to match.

FYI 3% is barely keeping up with inflation so you definitely have just cause to get a raise especially with the other factors you mentioned. To put in perspective I got a 17% raise after my first year on the job and I am still debating leaving because I know it's still under what I could get elsewhere.

Pretend you own a business and you have two employees asking for a raise.

One gives you examples of how he is saving or making you money.

The other uses a shitty situation to try and leverage more money out of you.

Which one gets the raise?

You need to practice empathty and think about how others view your actions and then you can use that to get what you want.

My dad always told me work like you're getting overpaid. This is a good philosophy to take with you when you ask for A raise.you don't want to go to your boss and say you owe me this money or I deserve this money or nobody can do what I do.you definitely do not want to go to your boss and say you're owed raise or you will bounce. You run every risk of your boss saying good if they're going to pay you more good luck with your future. You want to phrase it in such a way that your boss feels it's in both of your interests to give you more money. I would say "listen, I always give 110%, I'm generally well liked by my peers, and I love my job." "I feel it would be mutually beneficial for if you gave me a 12% raise. I'm not saying I will work harder than I already do, or that I don't always bring 110% to the table, however, I would prefer a bigger role in the ongoing operations here and be more than willing to take on a bigger work load for a 12% raise. HECK, I'll scrub the toilets for 20%!" This tells your boss you're a team player. You're not looking for a handout. You're not dissatisfied with your current income. But it also lets them know they can trust you and they should value you. But here's the catch: before I asked for a raise I would start looking for other jobs. I would look for other positions with a serious intent of leaving my current job. If your boss denies your raise and you have a job offer in hand from another company, I would sit on it for a couple of weeks. I'm not saying you have to have an offer at the time of your meeting however if you don't get the news you're looking for after speaking with your boss but it gives you one last card to play. If at that time you are fully committed to moving on, you can go to them with the job offer and say you are leaving for money. But just know this is the absolute wrong reason for an employer to give you more money. In the end, it will only make you resent them and they will constantly feel that you were on the cusp of leaving anyway.
