IMO it depends on the emotions you feel from the music. I personally don't give a shit about lyrics and 95% of the time I don't even know what they're saying.

I care more about melodies, and overall quality sounds.

There's some songs I listen to that talk about suicide and breakups but I only listen to them cause they're chill and could care less about what they're singing about.

I don’t listen to music much any more. Too much to learn. My workout playlists are documentaries on YouTube, mostly historical stuff.

However, when I do listen to music, normally it’s epic musical scores from movies. Not “soundtrack” shit, but the stuff you hear from Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, Gears of War) and Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Caribbean).

Listen to music that makes you feel like you can take on the world, not stuff that makes you want to turn over your wallet to the nearest bimbo.
