You don't need 10k for that.

AFAIK it is possible again to play short stack strategy (SSS) on pokerstars again, although I am not sure if it is different in the US than in Europe, where I live. A couple of years ago the US market was unfortunately detached from the rest of the world.

It wouldn't be very profitable here, since there are many guys from Russia and Eastern Europe who at least know about strategy a little bit and the tables are too nitty, but it might be better in the USA.

If so, do it like we did back in the good times and start on NL25 FR and work your way up. Even with a conservative bankroll management you won't need more than $500 to start.

If you start at a level where a bankroll of 10k would be reasonable, you'd very probably loose most of it and have to drop down on lower levels anyways.

SSS has the advantage that it is easy to learn and that you can play 10+ tables very fast, since in the beginning you will slavishly stick to very simple rules about what to do pre- and postflop.

This will allow you to collect rakeback very fast and climb through VIP-levels, which again will make it possible to earn money although you are actually a breakeven or loosing player.

Be aware that this is work though. It's hard work and it takes the ability to focus on things, but even much more importantely it requires ou to have a very strong and stoic mindset since you can loose your whole bankroll if you are going on tilt.

I have been admin in one of the world's biggest poker board and had access to the highstakes player's board and at one time it really stops being fun and just takes a huge amount of discipline.

Also gambling addiction is still a thing. I remember a very successful highstakes player who quit for good, because he realized he had a gaming problem.

If SSS is not your thing, Fixed Limit Hold Em is also a very good option since the tables are usually filled with fish who do not have the slightest clue what they are doing, but will gladly pay you because "it's just one big bet".

Yes you can be a poker player and live of it, bit it's the same 9 to 5 job only you play cards (of course there a lot of variables like you bank role and specialisation and what is your threshold of risk).

you will hate it and fail. at best you might find it a fun hobby if you like learning games.

its not at all glamorous to grind up to rewarding levels, and the effort and capabilities required are high. much of it boils down to iron discipline to spend infinite hours staring at a computer screen or amongst filthy degens, suffering unpleasant events while keeping focused.

works best for semi-damaged people who have excellent mental skills coupled with fatal flaws that keep them from applying their skills to more rewarding fields.

The people who will succeed in the current environment would never ask the question you asked, they would already be compulsively reading the 2+2 archives and grinding microstakes.

there was an amazing gold rush period online when NL first boomed and no one knew how to play, that is long over.
