The exact Uni doesn't matter so much as the tier. There's top 20. Top 50. And then trash. Within those tiers there's not much difference. The exception might be within the first category. There is probably still a difference between Harvard and Fordham.

Generally speaking the degree would diversify you pretty much into any business in theory. However in practice the MBA is merely a gatekeeper they used to shut out candidates they don't want. Often most career pages which request an MBA or X number of years experience already have an internal candidate. They have been grooming them but need to keep it on the down low from the general staff.

It's also a degree which is largely a proof of wealth opposed to a proof of talent particularly if you are younger. It shows you can support yourself for an extra 2 - 5 years (depending on your other degree/degrees) over the general population. Particularly, if you are from a top 50 school internationally or top 20 nationally.

There are honesty very few fields which going for a masters in business compliments. It's generally a gatekeeper for director position but the degree can always be attained once you already are in a regional manager position and often will be at least partially covered by a company at some point.

These positions you won't get out of the gate anyway without some lower level experience. It can also imped your ability to get that experience as well since you are often over qualified for the lower level managerial positions.

If you have no interested is personal managing than the degree is practically useless.
