Short background - I'm 27, I'm mostly focused on lifting/career/learning, really started to get my shit together after a break up last year and currently not overly concerned with women. But I don't avoid an opportunity that presents itself.

Friday night I met up with my cousin and a few of his friends - two guys, one of their girlfriend's (Sally) and her work-friend (Lisa). They're all mid-30's and I know them, except Lisa. She was brought along to get acquainted with our single friend, but he wasn't really interested. Lisa is 23, cute, and we have things in common, so I am.

Sally is bitchy from the start, complaining about relocating to a bar we all like, and is generally not a fun person. She's also very unattractive and seems to have a disproportionately inflated ego, probably because her boyfriend is a good looking guy (who my cousin happens to think is only with her to cover up his closet homosexuality).

When we relocate, I end up seated by bitchy Sally, but I remain friendly despite a little rudeness. The group moves to play pool, and at one point I'm chatting with Lisa. I don't claim to have good game, but the interaction seemed promising. It's a tough read though because Lisa hasn't generally seemed energetic or fun throughout the night. Sally, hovering over her friend, interjects and says to me, "Look, you're making her uncomfortable and I think you need to leave her alone." Snotty tone, naturally.

I'm caught off guard. I don't even remember what I said but it wasn't a good save. It wasn't until this point Lisa looked uncomfortable at all but I don't know if it's me or the bitchy interjection. Then it was my turn to shoot and I never really recovered the interaction, essentially backing off. I wasn't quick enough to call out Sally for her shit effectively, but I'm not sure what would have been best since I'd only met her once and her boyfriend had already white knighted for her once over something stupid.

What would have been the right play here? I asked my cousin what he thought since he's pretty much TRP (naturally or otherwise), and his thought was "Should have looked at her and said 'Lisa is an adult, she can speak for herself.' But turning it on Lisa would make her uncomfortable." He agreed it was fucked up how Sally interjected.

tl;dr ugly/bitchy friend hovers over interaction, chimes in with unwelcome bull shit and throws me off, not sure how to save that situation

Thanks guys.
