Of course. Don't you want to be known by the company you keep?

Any girl you spend a significant amount of time with should be of sufficient quality as to merit that kind of time. If she's not there already then lead her to get there.

And be warned by two examples from my past:

Girlfriend #1: met her when she was at a party, staring at her feet. She was so self conscious and fearful she didn't want to speak to anyone. After a year with me, somehow I was "holding her back."

Girlfriend #2 and then wife: met her when she was working at a book store. Pushed her to continually improve. Married far faster than I should have due to the military. Stayed with her for twenty years. Pushed her to three medical billing and coding certifications and to take on additional responsibility at work. Talked her into pushing for raises that quadrupled her salary. Divorced because "I was holding her back."

It's the nature of a woman to be pushed by men to reach higher planes - and then to become arrogant enough to convince themselves they can do better and must therefore branch swing away from the man who made them.

In the case of the wife, I regret wasting twenty years with her. It's a mistake I'll not make again in a hurry. Her improvements improved me, however. The increase in income was nice, particularly when I was having trouble finding a job after finishing my master's degree.
