Am I seeing this right? When someone is screwed over (cheated on, abused, etc.) and then cuts off all contact with the (cheater, abuser, etc.), a common hamstering response is "You dodged a bullet!" meaning "Congratulations! You avoided being hurt worse. You are smart and strong! Go you!" I'm guessing the right response to this phrase is to pretend to agree but to be realistic on the inside and keep working toward my goals. I find this phrase infuriating because this positive spin implies the wrongdoer did everyone a favor by being an asshole. Hamsters gonna hamster, I guess. Thoughts?
