That was a combo of too serious, too high on the high horse, and too wordy.

Here's a simple way to think about it, OK you said that and feel it really expresses your strong position on the topic etc. etc... but did you stop and think about what happens next? She has to say something now. And you did not give her anything, any good leads or things to hook into, so she can say something smart and funny and sassy back to you, so your flirt can continue.

She couldn't give a flying fuck about your moral position, she is thinking the whole way about what she is going to say about hers.

This long explanation then boils down to this practical advice:

don't be wordy
don't be too serious
don't get on the moral high horse

Ideally, instead of answering her question you'd turn it into something charming and cocky-sounding. Example:

her: "So would your girlfriend ever have to worry about you cheating?"

you: Ohh, we only just met and already you're asking for my references?

her: ha, no but really!

you: Wellllll... I can get you a nice ref from my mom... That she never brought me up right, will that do, principal Sally?

Do you have a girlfriend yet or not? If not you tried validated yourself overtly, so not the best response.

Something more along the lines of "If I feel the need to cheat I may as well be single" perhaps.
