This weekend was an eye-opener for me.

I'm in college and I took the red pill about 3 months ago and, as a result, have been single and hooking up with girls for about 2 months now. I've been hitting the gym and eating clean and trying my best to secure my finances for the future.

This weekend, I decided to hang out with my male friends (two of whom are my roommates) and try to have a good time. We made some half-baked plans to get them stoned and go hiking (I was going to go sober, as I do not do drugs) and then go to bars downtown in the evening. It sounded like we had a fun weekend in store.

What ended up happening sickened me. My friends decided to get high/drunk both Friday and Saturday and sit on the couch playing video games, watching TV, and eating junk food for the entire day. This is not an exaggeration: they did not even consider leaving our apartment and basically sat on their asses, fattened themselves up, and cracked the most cringe-inducing jokes for hours on end.

Over the weekend I made some very interesting observations. One of my roommates – we will call him Nick – is in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend. She was over at our apartment for a few hours during the weed-alcohol-junkfood binge. The look on her face said it all. She was, in my opinion, extremely disgusted with the way Nick had put on 30 pounds since starting their relationship and lost all interest in making new friends, improving his body & mind, and maintaining the attraction that got them together in the first place. It got to the point where she decided to ditch him and go out with her friends, as she has been doing for months now. This was after she and I shared multiple looks of mutual understanding of what losers my friends have become. And the worst part is that Nick is oblivious to what is happening to himself and his relationship. There is nothing I can do.

Another interesting observation: When I decided to try to get my friends off their asses and out of the apartment (which I did multiple times), they either ignored me or ridiculed me for trying to get them to leave. It got to the point where they looked at me like I’m the biggest asshole to ever exist when I suggested that we go to bars and be social. They teased me about being a “manwhore” and made a bunch of judgmental comments whenever I would leave the apartment, implying I was going off to hook up with a girl (as if that’s a bad thing?). It got to the point where it took every ounce of discipline I had not to snap at them and tell them what a bunch of fucking losers they are.

I should have either gone out alone and tried to make new friends or done something productive, like read a book, work on school/money, or hit the gym. But I made the mistake of staying in and getting drunk and eating garbage all weekend. I’ve never been more disgusted myself since I started TRP. This weekend was an eye-opener because I do not want to be sucked back into that kind of lifestyle.

Those of you with similar experiences since you started TRP: What did you do and how did you come out a stronger person?
