It is OK to be friends with them, they throw great parties and usually know hot girls. But understand that they want to hook up with you and will never get past that. Its like having a girl as friend, its fine and dandy and can have benefits, but you can not expect the same as a (hetero) male friendship.

So my advice is have gay friends the same way you have girl friends. They can be fun and interesting, but never make them your core inner circle, because the sexual tension will always be there. And they will be repulsed by your moment of weakness. You want to have your group of (hetero) male friends as core you can lean on.

You might be misunderstanding flirting for just that's all these men know how to do / be for hanging out. If they're not putting a hand on your knee or making jokes about maybe you get undressed a bit and such, they're just sometimes effeminate and that's what it is being gay.
