I laughed my ass off when one of my best friends bought a girl a nice gift for her birthday after knowing her for only a few months, but me? His 8 year best friend? Nope. Not even a card.

Go for some beauty creams (like at the Bodyshop if UK) because they don't cost much and the only thing she can possibly dislike is the smell. I don't think I'd ever buy a girl jewellery or a watch because you can easily choose "the wrong one". Don't fork out on one thing that can go wrong, multiple smaller gifts would be more suitable in my opinion.
