I'm actually married, but this question probably applies more to single guys. I've said to my wife stuff like "we should hook up tonite" or "do you want to hook up?" or "we are definitely going to hook up", and it's just such a great expression. It's the best expression I've ever felt comfortable to use to speak directly for initiating sex. I wish it were around when I was single. Think about some of the alternatives:

"Would you like to fuck?" - sounds too crude.

"Would you to have sex?" - sounds too clinical.

"Would you like to do it?" or "would you like to go to the bedroom?" - sounds too vague, like you're insecure about saying what you really mean.

But "Would you like to hook up?" just WORKS. It has just the right amount of physical meaning (hook up like a physical object) but also conveys a sense of a casual social encounter.

Edit: I don't always ask: just substitute "we should ......... " for some of the examples above.

Does anyone agree or disagree? Is it even possible that the term "hook up" has (in a small way) helped increase sexual encounters in western society because it's just such a good phrase?
