so I have this girl that's kind of my friend in a few of my classes who's interested in me, ok. I decide to invite her to do something with me next friday seeing as semester is ending and I don't have to worry about having to work with her post-possible rejection. She said sure very enthusiastically.

today she asks me if i want to go eat something with her (in a very casual way, we were studying together at the moment), I say yes.

  1. was this a good idea? should you hang out with girls you're interested in in contexts where escalation to kissing/sex is impossible? keep in mind I've been in a few of this girl's classes for a while so we've already studied/sat next to each other/walked around campus together while only escalating to flirty touching sometimes each time. Also this girl follows me around a lot, I don't ever seek her out she just does it because she likes me I assume.

while we're eating I'm having fun like the usual teasing and touching and shit but she starts talking about her life and some problems she's having. I don't inquire further (ok I did ask a few questions but only because I was genuinely interested in the story) and I don't act as a shoulder for her to cry on. When she's done (she ends it herself, even saying "you're not my psychiatrist so I should stop") I just change subjects, start joking and flirting again as usual.

  1. what should I have done differently, if anything? I usually just ignore her/break eye contact/act a little colder and change subjects when she talks about things I don't want to talk about (ex-boyfriends, other men chasing her, etc.) but it felt really insensitive and socially inappropriate doing such a thing here, so I let her talk for a bit while I sat semi-silently. I am really not interested in being her confidant. Next time I see her, I will definitely not talk about these serious issues but I'm wondering how damaging it was to my game

thanks in advance
