got work at a startup near my college. I've only been here for a week, but there's plotting by the boatloads. Here is what I've found out so far: the employee who holds the most power, so to speak, is someone who goes to my college and absolutely despises me (and the feeling is mostly mutual). We both are an economics major, and I know for a fact that he tried to stop me from being hired (overheard somebody talking about it). We're both on the sales team, which has 6 people total. I've noticed the entire team is noticeably cold and rude to me. Part of it is probably because I'm the new guy in their already established group, but it's not a stretch to think he had something to do with it. If he's willing to try to stop me from entering the company, it's nothing to turn people against me. And he definitely has the influence to do it: he's respected by most of the company for being good at sales, charming enough to be friends with most people, and the CEO sees him as her protege/a younger her. So clearly he has influence.

Of course, I have ambitions as well. I need the people in the company to respect me. Question is, how? I figured, if I got more sales than him, which I think I can do, I might get more respect. But I know him. He will not take kindly to it, and he'll try something to fuck me over.

So I'm not really sure what to do. He turned people against me. If I want to stand out and gain other people's respect, I'll need to draw attention. But this will piss him off, and he's proven he's not above getting dirty.
