Models by Mark Manson emphasizes openness and vulnerability in sharing about yourself to others, while 3% Man by Corey Wayne emphasizes the traditional 80% them talking, 20% you talking - where you are asking questions, directing the conversation, etc.
Personally, ever since reading How To Win Friends And Influence People many years ago, I’ve done great at getting the other person to do most of the talking, and I believe my problem might be I come off as TOO mysterious when it comes to conversing with people (friends, family and acquaintances around me say I’m very mysterious and hard to read).
I’m quite extroverted and enjoy meeting new people, but when it comes to conversing with them - I tend to avoid talking about myself/sharing too much about myself, which is why what Models talks about in opening yourself up was a new, refreshing insight to me. However, I’m very fascinated with people in general and love to ask questions about their lives, what they do, etc. I’ve had a female friend I met overseas once hit me up many months later professing her feelings to me, saying that “she knew nothing about me” (I posted about this a while ago on this forum). So I’m not sure whether this is a good thing or not.
My question is - how do you guys go about this in your own conversations and interactions? Does the other person do most of the talking, is it you, or a mix?
