Anybody here have a career in HVAC? How is it?

I do HVAC work my career isn't HVAC. It's really good side money for me in the summer, roughly 2-4k/mont. I just work on AC. Easy side work.
From what I understand it's a lucrative craft depending on the area you live.

HVACers are balling here in South Texas. 110 outside and our friend gets a new truck each even year and lives in a very nice house

Can it spin off into something more lucrative since you may be exposed to building or working on new units? Is it difficult to branch out and build a business? Curious for myself thanks!

I think it depends on where you are located, in a city or close to it. Easily a business, out in the sticks I'm not too sure. I have always been in or close to a city.

Went to school, never got in the field. I will say the work environment was a lot more fun then your typical office bullshit. Dudes rip on each other often. You’ll get really good at responding to shit tests

Went back to college, almost done. Couldn’t find an apprenticeship. Job prospects weren’t that great in my state, Reddit loves to jerk off trades but it’s not as great as they lead you to believe.

I personally love my trade, I love craft work. Office life isn't for me, I'd rather be able to talk shit while I'm at work and fix things. I work in a large plant with men/women but my craft is all men and we don't have to worry about anyone being sensitive. Fucking love it. Everywhere else I have worked I did not enjoy it like this.

yes i am envious of that aspect of the work environment. you can say the raunchiest joke or anything on your mind with zero repercussion. feel like im walking on eggshells in the office

I have my HVAC operator and mechanic license for the city I live in, but work as a merchant mariner. If you're working in large plants hospital,school, gov buildings etc it's decent money, relaxed job, but some people expect you to go above and beyond.
