I'm having a bit of a problem understanding this quote from The Rational Male. Trying to unplug myself but this has me so hung up. Here's the quote:

Her love is based on hypergamic qualifications, performance, and is far more conditional than what he’d been led to believe, or convinced himself, love should be between them. Her love seems duplicitous, ambiguous, and seemingly, too easily lost in comparison to what he’d been taught for so long is how a woman would love him when he found her. So he spends his monogamous efforts in ‘building their relationship’ into one where she loves him according to his concept, but it never happens. It’s an endless tail-chase of maintaining her affections and complying with her concept of love while making occasional efforts to draw her into his concept of love. The constant placating to her to maintain her love conflicts with the neediness of how he’d like to be loved is a hypergamic recipe for disaster, so when she falls out of love with him he literally doesn’t know that she no longer loves him. His logical response then is to pick up the old conditions of love she had for him when they first got together, but none of that works now because they are based on obligation, not genuine desire. Love, like desire, cannot be negotiated.

From what I gather from this it's stating a few things. Since women use hypergamy as a sexual strategy they view a man they're interested in as someone of value in one or more attributes that satisfies their criteria. The criteria can be social status, looks, etc. Is that correct? Since that initial attraction is based off of that the relationship will degrade into the man changing things about himself for her, acting differently, relaxing in the relationship and seeing a possible loss in value during it. Which in turn goes to the logical reasoning of: if I change this way that she likes then she will give me sex. But that deviates from the original values you had when you first met in which you don't meet her qualifications anymore and she eventually falls out of love and leaves for someone else she perceives as a higher value. But at the same time the man is wanting to be loved by her in his vision of it which is not possible which strains her qualifications hypergamy wise resulting in the loss of desire. Would be that correct?

Taking that into account, I'm assuming if you don't fall into the trap of changing yourself to what she likes to attempt to gain sex, more affection; you stay true to your values, your personality and constantly improve your SMV while maintaining an abundance mentality. By acting like that you are in a way fighting against her hypergamy showing her that you are valuable and are desired by which gives competition anxiety. Also by performing well in all aspects of life it makes the attraction more concrete for the time being until you slip up or show weakness which would begin to disqualify you towards her hypergamy. Am I understanding this right?
