I am and have always been very independent; I go my own way and do my own thing. All through high school I had social anxiety, was super self-conscious, hated being around others outside of forced environments because I just felt awkward. I overcame that in college with hard work and just experiences. I no longer have social "anxiety"...I actually like being around people now, and in structured environments like work and school, my command of the environment is really good. I can be an extravert in structured environments.
But I still don't really "hang out" with anyone out in the free world, and I don't really know how to since I've always been so alone and I feel different than other people my age. I go to work, workout, spend time online improving my knowledge and planning for future life, follow a diet plan, visit family, and that's about it right now. In the summer I golf. Outside of that, right now, I don't really know what else to do, and I don't know how to "hang out" with other people. I can't even find a gym partner because everyone I meet who I think maybe would want to work out with me simply doesn't have the seriousness for it. They'll half-ass it and they'd rather sit at home streaming video games. I need a gym partner who will match my level of seriousness and I have yet to find one.
In college I tried just hanging out with some friends occasionally, like just going over their place and chilling and smoking some weed and playing video games, but I never really felt right. I feel like when I do that I'm sacrificing my own time and doing things that I wouldn't do on my own just for the sake of "hanging out" with people.
I don't know what solution I'm looking for here...maybe just some ideas for fun things I can do with other people and feel good about it. What do you guys who have high-energy, active lives do for fun with others?
