I landed in Bali, did a stint in Java, and then settled on Thailand. From AU Indonesia is probably the cheapest first point to check out. I've been pretty wary of the Phillipines and other SE Asian countries because of all the single mommies looking for bailouts, gold diggers, etc. It is work to find a decent woman but your odds increase if you go to the right place.
