Question

Why do I immediately lose all desire to speak/associate to another dude when he reveals his suffering/pain?

Supporting questions: Is it wrong? Should I be more considerate? Is consideration necessary? Do others feel as I? Is it necessary for men to be supportive of others? Is vulnerability truly something to be applauded?

Background(if you desire to read ofc)

I have had many friendships that come and go. This summer I came across one such friend, I walked up to him and told him wassup, told him I really fucked with the dude. I was wondering why we fell off. He was adamant that I didn't text back which is unusual for me, so I sought proof in our message history.

Before I reached for my phone, I blurted out that I tend to dip when guys start complaining about life, and ask me for advice on their problems. A repeat occurrence I had never picked up until then...He laughed it off, but as I grabbed my phone and checked the last message he had sent me, it was of the same nature previously described. Then in those few seconds as we read the message, it was painfully obvious I was the cause of the split. We had that awkward eye contact and continued speaking. But, I know he was rattled and after promising me to contact me when he was in the area, no call ever came. I had fun times with that guy, but as I recall after receiving that message no amount of potential joy could have stopped me from dropping the conversation and forgetting about him. As if I had erased him from my mind as a friend. He was cool and I wish I didn't feel so strongly, but I know if the same situation occurred again, the result would likely be the same.

As I look back at all my friendships I have never liked when guys talk to me about feelings. Girls I used to console all the time and didn't bat an eye.

Sorta makes me feel like I'm the bad guy, you know those toxic masculinity commercials where the guy never cries then eventually kills himself because he never had an outlet. I feel like an accessory to those kinds of situations, yet I cannot help it nor do I feel the desire to.

How I see it is, we are both men, you have your problems as do I, why would you feel it appropriate to inform me of your problems when I am not yet problem free? I guess I see it as ultimate disrespect or selfishness.
