Is pursuing a MBA worth it?

If you go to a top school it can be worth it. If your current employer will promote you if you get an MBA, or if you are interested in a better paying position somewhere else that requires one, it's worth it. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

Are you thinking about quitting your current job and going back to school or are you going to continue working and get the degree at night or through distance learning?

Well I don’t think there’s enough info here to say if it’s worth it for you. I would advise you analyze your career goals and determine if you need an MBA first to advance. Also understand if you’re still at the entry level of your career you may not experience the ROI until your experience is commensurate with the position you’re pursuing. In which case it may be better to wait a couple of years so you can experience a more immediate return.

Now all of this goes out the window if a company is paying for this, if that’s the case go get it ASAP!

As an MBA holder I will sell you mine for 10% what I paid for it, all you gotta do is change your name.

The fact is an MBA from anywhere other than a big school where you can make contacts is a waste of time in this world.

If you want a degree with value, get one where you must have that specific degree in order to get that job. e.g. MD, JD, R.Ph etc. And even those lack the value paid compared to even just a decade ago.

A MBA is now what a bachelors was 20-30 years ago. MBA at a decent school combined with recruiting/internships/work experience and good people skills, you should be lined up well to make 6 figures. Do realize you are most definitely going to get a corporate position and that is not for everybody.

Personally I looked into it seriously several years ago, before going back to school for what I do now. Basically, unless you really like corporateland and can play nicely with carol in HR then you'll be fine. Most places are still looking for experience to back it up, best thing would be to go somewhere where the company will pay for it.

The reason why I didn't do it is because, I can't stand office jobs and getting the degree doesn't guarantee anything, plenty of people with their masters who can't find work still. So if you know you like it going into it, you should be fine.

Depends on what program you get into and how expensive it is. Usually the answer is no unless it's a great school or paid for by a company

I'm late, but I figured I chime in because I have mine. Like others said, it really depends on your situation and the school.

In my situation I had a business management degree and the only decent job I could get was a personal banker making $35k.

I went to an accredited university for my MBA, but it was by no means a Harvard , university of Chicago or something like that.

Through the program I learned a lot, took some programming courses and ended up getting a job making $45k before I completed it.

When I did complete it, I was getting interviews for jobs from 75-95k ish. I ended up with a job making $93k as a contractor (no benefits) and then finally getting $85k full time. I probably could have pushed for more, but it was small company and it was growing. So hopefully they will increase it soon, if not I'll look elsewhere.

It's not six figures, but I know it would have taken me another 10 years to get that salary without the MBA. Plus my employer paid for it, well they paid three quarters for it.
