So its exam period and everyone's staying all day in the Uni library.

There's a social area outside for breaks where people smoke and socialise.

Loads of groups of girls chilling so it would be a good chance to initiate conversation.

Asking for a cigarette and initiating conversation is a way, however I don't smoke.

Any advice on approaching a group of girls but making it seem like I'm not hitting on them? Since I'll be seeing them every day I don't want it to backfire if it doesn't lead anywhere, so need plausible deniability. Otherwise it wouldn't matter if they were random people I won't see again.
