So both the girls I was dating/spinning dropped me in the same day. This was my first experience pursuing multiple girls at once and it was going well until a few days ago. The one I had already slept with at this point invited me to hang out with her and two of her friends at a bar. The next day I made a joke over text about her friends not being funny which did not go over well seeing as how she did not respond. Before that she had also said I was being a little too sarcastic. I texted her a few days later and got hit with a "I'm not sure this is working" referencing my sarcasm bordering on rudeness, and that I wasn't opening up or being vulnerable with her. I said if you want lets hang out again and we can talk in person. She agreed but the next day said something came up and cancelled, she didn't try to reschedule. I responded "ok" and am leaving it at that. I'm considering it over at this point, if she comes back with something fine but I'm not going to get desperate here.

Moving on to the other girl, I had texted her the morning the first girl cancelled the date asking her out for the third date, she usually doesn't text all day due to the nature of her work so I knew I wouldn't hear from her until the evening. In the meantime the first girl cancels and after work I get a text from the second girl. She tells me that she recently started seeing someone else and would feel uncomfortable going on dates with me as well at the same time, said she had fun and hopes I understand and that she's sorry. My analysis is that I took too long between the second and third date, I went on vacation between them and after I got back we had a third date planned but I had to reschedule. I find it ironic that she won't date me at the same time even though she must have with the new guy but it is what it is.

The good news is that while I'm bummed both my plates dropped at once it's more about the lost prospect of more or further sex rather than it is about either of the girls. The plate spinning made any investment in either low enough to the point where I can easily move on. My question for the community is where did I go wrong, how do I better spin plates in the future? Should I be more committed to seeing them a set number of times a week/month? Is there a point where you have to open a bit more to keep them coming back? The last thing I came off as is needy but then again here I am writing it all up asking why I lost them. All input appreciated.
