I've made a discovery in my world history class today. The most powerful people did not have one wife, or if they did it was only for more power.

For example, Kings would have a Queen, who was only really there to establish better relations with a powerful family or country. They would have a multitude of mistresses at hand to choose from.

If falling in love only meant for people who need to rely on the other sex? Women need men to protect their offspring, men need women to raise their offspring?

This might be a little stretch in terms of thinking a little too much, but I found it interesting. Wonder what you guys think.
