I get this so often I actually crack up when a girl tells me on the first date she was raped and/or has depression. I usually just pretend not to care and start talking about something else. It short-circuits their brain.

I don't say this lightly, I hard next less than most. Mental issues is one reason, feminism is another and "she told me she has been abused" is yet another.

The problems are:

She is TELLING you about it. Why? Why would she do this? Do you talk to strangers about your past bad experiences?
If she's telling the truth, she's fucked up by it.
If she's lying, she's a nutcase.
She will tell the next guy how much YOU abused her.
She is trying to turn you into a white knight.
She will likely project the abuse (if true) onto you
Victims are not always as blameless as they try to portray themselves. You know that guy always being fired or getting fucked up at work? You know how it's partly his fault? Same applies. Obviously not with child abuse, should go without saying.
Good chance she will also, in turn, be abusive in various ways.

Run fast run far.

So the fuck what? If you don't have experience navigating through these waters now is you're chance. You will come across more abused girls. My mom was abused as a kid. She's one of the strongest people I know and can read people like no other. It's awesome. She's honestly one of the people I look up to the most.
