Let me ask you something: Are you worth more than $10 an hour?

If yes, why even consider this bullshit position? You should be applying everywhere as a way to gauge your market value. If you get a few interviews and receive a couple offers, you can leverage those offers against one another and potentially boost your starting salary.

It's almost like you're getting ONEitis for a company that wants you to jump through hoops so they can treat you like shit. But you can make companies compete for you by the simple act of applying to as many jobs as possible.

It's time to change how you approach your job search OP, because without a sound strategy companies are gonna take advantage of you. This post is proof that up to this point you've been willing to let that happen. Have some self-respect and make sure you get paid what you're worth, that's all I'm saying.

What field?

How is 8.50$/10$ an hour to move out of state worthwhile to you, especially in NYC?

Maybe I'm missing something, why would you ever say yes to that? I make 3 times that at an entry level position with no post-secondary.

Take it work 3 months and look for other opportunities with the experience you learn
